Encaustic

Encaustic painting is an ancient Greek art form that involves using hot, melted beeswax and damar resin mixed with pigments to create vibrant and textured artworks. The wax is steadily applied in layers onto a surface, such as wood and is then fused together with heat to solidify each layer. This technique enables the creation of a rich, glossy finish with unique textures, both smooth and sculptural giving a physical depth not often found upon the canvas. I was drawn to learn and join in the creation of this ancient tradition due to the luminous qualities it imparts to colors, and its ability to draw you into the moment it captures within its depth.
