Fine Art on Silk

Each silk painting starts by creating a drawing on paper and then transferring (redrawing) the image onto the silk. The painting is created using fabric dyes, varying methods to control the dye movement including sizing (the Karen Sistek method). Also cold wax and hot wax can be used as a resist. The finished painting is steamed for approx. 2 hours to set the dye. Once the steaming process is completed the excess dye is washed out of the silk it is ironed and then mounted on a high-quality canvas with an archival varnish.
